I cite Pete Sisco a lot. He has several good books out there. Among them is this one: Static Contraction Training. This book exposes the falsehood of the old mantra of full range of motion exercise as being necessary to derive maximum results. I’ve used this technique myself and with many of my clients. It is an excellent tool for people wanting to add muscle as well as a great technique for delicate rehab or post rehab patients. Oddly enough, being in gyms all day, I find it hard to squeeze in workouts, myself. If for nothing else, the time value alone saved with these high intensity, but brief duration workouts, is worth the price of the book.
Initially, it doesn’t “feel” like this method would be all that effective, but I realized I was focusing on the wrong workout effects. I’ve done a lot of techniques and I’m crediting Static Contraction Training with most of the addition of about 20 lbs of muscle over the last several years. Give it a serious try if you want to get strong as an ox and add a significant amount of muscle too.
